Gardens for Life Training

We hosted a Gardens for Life training session on 25 October 2023, bringing together a total of 60 delegates from four surrounding villages, along with participants from our second farm. The training formed part of our ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable living, food security, and community empowerment.
The session focused on practical, low-cost methods of establishing and maintaining household vegetable gardens. A key emphasis was placed on resourcefulness—demonstrating how every day, readily available materials can be repurposed for gardening. Participants were shown how to use items such as old vehicle tyres, plastic cold drink bottles, and egg trays as planting containers, seed starters, and space-saving vertical garden solutions.
In addition to these techniques, the training covered basic soil preparation, planting methods, watering practices, and the importance of crop selection for local conditions. Attendees were encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly practices while reducing waste and household costs.
The interactive nature of the session allowed participants to engage in hands-on activities, ask questions, and share their own experiences. By the end of the training, delegates were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to start or improve their own vegetable gardens, contributing to improved household nutrition and greater self-sufficiency within their communities.
